NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course

Learn the knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and shooting a pistol safely. Successful completion qualifies you apply for a Colorado Concealed Carry Permit.

The NRA Basic Pistol class is the “Cadillac” of introductory handgun courses. Designed by the NRA, hundreds of thousands of students have started learning their handgun skills here.

The NRA Basic Pistol Course has a classroom portion and a range/live fire portion and is conducted at The Firing Line, 20 S. Potomac St., Aurora, CO 80012.  Minimum class size is 5; Maximum class size is 10.  You will learn how to handle revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. In addition, this class includes:

  • NRA’s rules for safe gun handling;
  • Pistol parts and operation;
  • About ammunition;
  • Shooting fundamentals;
  • How to shoot at a shooting range;
  • Shooting positions;
  • Handgun selection
  • Basic pistol cleaning; and
  • Continued opportunities for skill development.

Students in the NRA Basic Pistol class will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program Guide, a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

Our experienced instructors are NRA certified and have taught this course  many times. Our style is relaxed and informative. The class is conducted in a classroom setting, not boot camp and is designed for regular people who want to learn how to shoot

If you have a firearm, please bring it to class.  We’ll teach you to shoot with that handgun and you will also learn how to take it apart and clean it.  But if you don’t have a firearm, they are available for use for no additional charge.  All course pricing includes range fees, but not ammunition.
