By “handgun”, we mean modern double-action revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. There are other types of handguns (single-action revolvers, for example). But they are rarely used for concealed carry. So we will not address them here.  When we refer to revolvers or handguns, we are referring to the modern handgun variants.
